The facts are one cannot judge how he or she is playing at a venue until they have played at the VERY LEAST 1,000 hours.

Yes and no. The stat hounds will go on and on about standard deviations and sample sizes etc., and it's all quite valid, but not terribly helpful in a B&M situation where it could take *years* for an amateur to get in 1K hours. Would anyone hold off on evaluating their play until they hit that landmark?

You can still keep track of how you're doing by looking at your session and making notes, mental and otherwise, about the quality of your play. Like a lot of folks I keep track of my +/- every session which just helps me get a sense of how my "bankroll" is doing. On top of that, I try to think where I played hands particularly well or poorly, or where I made good/bad reads on other players and keep track of that. That way I can keep track of the quality of my play on my way to statistical certainty.

Can anyone provide any info regarding the action at the Sarasota Dog track poker room? How's the $1-2 NL game or the $3-5 Limit action?

Thanks!

Seemed like an OK place for it. I may be taking a trip to Florida later this year. I'll be staying in South Beach. What are the poker room choices in the greater Miami area (I've heard of the Flagler Dog track, but what else)?

TIA

There are several options in Broward county just to the north. I like to play at the Isle in Pompano. It's non-smoking and somewhat soft.

The Hard Rock in Hollywood is a lot of fun with a wide variety of games and people. It was the first to offer poker.

The closest is the racetrack at Hallandale and US1. Played there once and did okay. They coverted a dinner theater in to a poker room so it is seperate from the casino.

Cardroom itself is very nice.......but they have a timed rake. The track is also in a horrible area of the city.

On the HR front, the state legislature is now attempting to block the gaming upgrade........mostly republicans.

Nothing has changed yet and who knows what could happen. Lots of people have been saying August would be the deadline for a long time, which then got pushed back to Sept. 11... which now got pushed back once again. To top it all off, the Governor claims he has authority to finalize a deal and the state legislature believes they have to ratify any deal that is made. Precedent in other states where the constitution doesn't explicitly grant rights to the governor would favor the latter, requiring legislative approval.

There are tribes in other states that have failed to negotiate compacts for several years. Nothing is a sure thing yet.

Flagler Dog Track is all there is around South Beach/downtown Miami. You could head out to the western part of the county for the Miccossukee resort or head north to Calder in northern Dade or Gulfstream or Mardi Gras in Broward.

I am there every single day playing 1/2 NL.

A couple of dealers have mentioned that they are going to bring in table games and higher limit poker etc. They said it would be the 11th of this month. I was there today and it was status quo.

IMO not one dealer knows wtf is truly going to happen. So I would not put any credence to anything they say.

When it happens, it happens.

Sarasota Kennel Club is the nicest of the FL cardrooms by far. And the newest too. My wife and I used to go there for date night.

We just moved to LA (way better poker, obviously), but in retrospect we were treated well at SKC. The low limits and above average weren't good for the game generally, but they fill the place nightly.
