Sunday million on Stars; in the money but a long way from the final table (like 500 left or so, money started at 900). The next pay jump is a fair distance away. I get moved to a new table where I don't know anybody. I fold my first two hands in the blinds and then pick up 55 on the button. Blinds are 3K/6K/600 and I have 86K. SB has 52K and BB has 96K. It is folded around to me-- what is the correct play? [/ QUOTE ] Raise 18000...call shove (either blind.) Maybe consider folding if BB makes it like 45K... |

Raising is more profitable than shoving here. Any better PP will call a shove but a wider range of overcards will resteal. There are also the times, particularly in the million, where a QJ type hand will call pf and then fold on the flop when it misses.

What about the time that QJ type shoves flop with air on a stop n go? Instacall?
Any call/check from a villain is terrible in this spot. |

anything but raise/fold to BB and open folding. limp/shoving fine as long as even if BB shoves over your limp you call. Raise/calling not awful but I prefer just to open shove here.

[/ QUOTE ] I think we want him to fold two overs, rather than coinflip against him. Considering only the situation where they has two overs. If SB & BB fold, we win whats in the pot so +EV 13400 if we get it all in against SB and he has overs, we win 55% of the time. If we win we win 55000 +5400 +6000 =66400 if we lose we lose 55000 so EV of flipping against SB = 0.55x66400 + 0.45x55000 = +11770 Repeating the above for BB, we do slightly better butits still only +EV of 13220 either way, we are better off if they just fold. Also we have a lot less variance. |
