Re: does any1 hEre lived from hawaii? shark-surfing Q
when you're going shark-surfing, the most important thing to do is to make sure you pick out a good shark. when you're starting off, it's best to choose one with a nice flat back because that's what easiest to stand on. after you get more experienced, try to find the shark with the roundest smoothest back that you think you can ride in. i had a friend in college who kept bringing in the easiest smooth-backed sharks we'd ever seen. ol' Flatback we used to call him!
once you've mounted the shark, make sure you've got your chum-bucket ready. that shark's not going to go where you want unless you really throw that chum way out in front of where you want to go. when you've gone as far as you want to go on your shark, give him a pat on the nose. he'll know that he should swim up next to another shark and let you hop onto that one. and for the love of god, please don't sit on the shark. it's not a horse. even Flatback knew how to stand up on a shark. |

Move this thread back to OOT.
It isn't about Hawaii. It's about shark surfing. |

Re: does any1 hEre lived from hawaii? shark-surfing Q
I grew up there and during the summers often went bodysurfing every day. We did have a shark circle around us once, but nothing happened.
It's one of those things that's terrible to think about, but the chances of anything happening are so remote, it gets crazy to worry about it. If you aren't not too frightened to let your daughter drive a car, you should relax about shark attack worries. |

[ QUOTE ]
finally to fully explain where i´m coming from a gypsy once advised me to be weary of the sea. [/ QUOTE ] Holy [censored] that's awesome. If you, somehow, don't let your *23 year old daughter* go surfing in Hawaii, then how could you let your *23 year old daughter* eat french fries or drive a car which are two vastly more dangerous activities for her well being. 23 year old daughter highlighted for that fact that, she is 23 years old. |

Re: does any1 hEre lived from hawaii? shark-surfing Q
is she going in the winter? i'd be more concerned about her swimming ability than getting hit. the currents and wave strength on north swells are no joke and she probably hasn't been in anything comparable unless she's surfed nor cal or other pacific spots. if she's done nor cal, then she's been in worse shark attack spots anyway.
