Default This should be a quickie

Sunday million on Stars; in the money but a long way from the final table (like 500 left or so, money started at 900). The next pay jump is a fair distance away.

I get moved to a new table where I don't know anybody. I fold my first two hands in the blinds and then pick up 55 on the button. Blinds are 3K/6K/600 and I have 86K. SB has 52K and BB has 96K. It is folded around to me-- what is the correct play?

Readless, raise standard. Call if SB shoves, fold if BB shoves.

why not shove?
i know we have 14BB, but with blinds and antes pot is 17k. and i would hate laying down 2-3BB to a restealer with 55 here.

A resteal is much more common from the BB than from the SB.

that was not what i meant.

I mean i make a difference in games where we have no or small antes and games with antes that large like here.

When we have no or small antes I use approx. the 10BB rule to start pushing.

In this case we have 14BB, but with antes an M=6 - so usually with M that low I open push everytime and make no more standard-raises.

Good shove bad beat I think, you're only worried about the BB's holding anyway, as you're committed to the SB's raise/shove. 55 is a hand with good %s that doesn't tend to hold up to postflop aggression- though you're being smoothcalled by BB approximately never. In any rate, I save myself the decision, put it in and pray that BB doesn't have a pp.

Open shoving will be profitable, so that's an option. I just believe that raising will be more profitable and I think that raise-folding is fine, but it's very close and I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone proved me wrong.

However, I imagine I would also narrow any random's restealing range in the Million because they are never as wide as you think they will be or should be.

Edit: if I'm happy to get this in pf, then I like limp-shoving more than open-shoving.

Cool, that's about what I thought. I wasn't sure how close it was between shoving and raise/call (vs. SB) or raise/fold (vs. BB). I don't play enough tournaments to have a good feel for this sort of thing.
