Default Re: Question about raises @ $1/2 NL

So what's the recommended bankroll for playing live 1/2 NL?

And what kind of strategy changes, if any, would one make from what is recommended in HOH 1?

2k leaves you a real chance of going broke, while there's almost no chance of this with 6k (unless you're a losing player of course)

My sample size is small, but I have never lost more than 2.5 buy ins in a row at 100NL after about 50 hours(estimate). I think the best strategy is to play tight, abc poker. Try not to miss value bets because they often call with marginal hands. Try to induce bluffs from players that bet too often, which is common. I dont see why 2k wouldnt be enough if you dont monkey tilt.

1-2 IMO is usually 6-15 preflop, where 2-3 is usually 10-25 preflop unless you get into reraise situations...

alot has to do with the chips in play, IMO 1-2 games i play use 1$ chips where the 2-3$ games play with 5$ chips.

So when you have a good hand I guess you should throw that $10 raise out the window in one of these $1/2 NL games? I had the same experience with my first session. I now know why some people prefer live play to online even with the tips, rake, and 1/3 of the hands an hour considered.

I have seen a 1/2NL game where three hands in a row, this guy went all in in early position with the $100 minimum buy-in, and all three times he was called in 3 places. I wasn't in the game, but I wanted to be...

It really varies table by table. Usually I hope to pick up garbage for the first couple hands I play so I can get a feel for how much the standard raise will be. I've sat at tables where the standard opening raise was $15 or more and other times $7 will do the trick.

As you said, your sample size is small. Play long enough and you'll eventually hit a 10+ buy-in downswing.

I see that at Fox 1-2NL as well(40 min 100 max)

If you raise to seven expect nobody to fold that wasn't folding anyways. Someone will make it $20 and then someone else will make it like $60.

[/ QUOTE ]

You think this has a lot to do with the $5 chips Foxwoods gives out? Seems like they raise based on chips not blinds, if that makes sense. I bitched about it in my trip report.

i was at the new Hilton Casino in AC this past weekend, and i was playing the 1-2 nl 40 min 300 max game. the standard preflop raise was 10-20 dollars, and some even higher then that. players are extremely loose in these games at every casino. expect to see a wide range of hands calling your preflop raise.
after playing 3 hours i 6x my buy in. and was sitting on 1k at the table. people go all in on just a flush draw, and with TPTK. its easy money if you play TAG or a smart LAG.
you will easily be able to tell who is a fish, who is ABC, and who is a good player. live is alot jucier then online, IMHO
