Re: \"When I see someone raise utg, I know he is a losing player\"
[ QUOTE ]
in a full ring game you could probably never raise utg with negligible effect on your winrate (and for a lot of people, it would probably even help). however, you definitely can't conclude that anyone who does raise utg must be a fish. [/ QUOTE ] Also, you could probably construct a 6 max game that didnt have raising UTG, but it would be pretty pointless. gl dd |

Re: \"When I see someone raise utg, I know he is a losing player\"
I went through a phase of never openlimping. I.e. if I was gonna play a hand, from any position, and no-one had opened the pot, I would always raise. Now that's spewy.

Re: \"When I see someone raise utg, I know he is a losing player\"
I was pretty surprised to hear him say this, but he did qualify his statements almost immediately. He said this was instruction for beginners at Omaha specifically, and that you want to avoid getting a bunch of money in postflop with a mediocre hands, especially OOP. Later he said that raising UTG was "retarded," because it sets you up to get a bunch of money in postflop, OOP, with a hand that likely has few outs to improve. But then a few seconds later I heard him qualify the statement by saying it's not always the case that raising UTG is wrong for beginners anyway. So it seems like even he realized he had overstated the point he was trying to make (though the AQQ9 fold is obviously wrong).

honestly, i can't find anyone who doesn't ever raise utg, winner or loser. [/ QUOTE ] I know a guy who is solid winner at PLO1000 full ring and he NEVER raises preflop unless he is going to get allin with AAxx etc. I personally hate raising OOP when I play low limits. |

Re: \"When I see someone raise utg, I know he is a losing player\"
no, I have def. played long-term with a few guys who I am very confident are winners in the 2-3bb/100 range who have PFR%s of like 2.5%. They play nitty postflop poker and don't get in bad spots, and bad players are still willing to double them up occassionally.

If you will only raise AAxx or KKxx, raising OOP is VERY wrong...

I agree. And you don't have to be nitty post flop either if you have a taste for excessive check raising.

Re: \"When I see someone raise utg, I know he is a losing player\"
i find in some loose agressive games raising in EP is a good way to keep to pot managable. the raise gets called in just about the same number of spots as a limp would, but a limp would get raised somewhere in LP to about 7blinds, (and called by the limpers). where by raising, the LP players tend to just call a lot. Thus essentialy limiting the pot size to 3blinds per player instead of 6-7blinds per player.
ofcourse this is highly dependant on game conditions but i've found it to work fairly wel in some games at the PLO$100 level quite 'odd' advice for a coach. aside from the previous reason for EP raising there definately are more reasons for it mostly read specific (ie some maniac is VERY likely to Reraise the button so you can repop AI with a lot of dead money.. |
