Default Newbie PLO8 w 2nd nut high

I'm pretty new to Omaha. Is this a prime example of why not to play non-A hands? My thinking was that given the flop I was going to be up against low draws often enough to make this profitable.

Please critique my play.

This is very bad. You will either get a tiny profit or in most cases lose. Your starting hand is especially terrible. Three high cards and 1 low card is not good.

Fold at every street. You're playing for half the pot, and have severe negative implied odds to lose a huge chunk of your stack.

PLO8 is a game all about scooping.

Easy easy fold on the flop. You're drawing to at most 1/2 the pot and you aren't even drawing to the nuts.

Who completes the SB here (at 13:1 IIRC) purely for set value? (Discounting the broadway/nut flush (A on board)/straight flush (lol) possibilities, if we play this, we want to see a Q on the flop.)

Yeah, you're right...we can make the nuts a few more ways than if we had something like QQ92r.

Arouet - Take my remarks with a grain of salt because I mostly play limit-Omaha-8 in brick and mortar casinos, rather than pot-limit-Omaha-8 on-line.

In my humble opinion you made a mistake by continuing on the second betting round. In my humble opinion you should have folded to the bet on the second betting round (after the flop). That is where you went wrong.

You have a very speculative starting hand, and you're out of position, but in a loose game, it seems reasonable to see the flop for a half small bet if you don't think BB will raise.

With this many opponents seeing the flop, when you make the 2nd nut flush on an unpaired board, you figure to win about two times out of three (getting beaten by the nut flush or a straight flush the other one time out of three).

The main problem with the 2nd nut flush when low is already present is you cannot generally tell if somebody who bets or raises has the nut low (maybe also with a baby flush) or the nut flush. You cannot tell where you stand in the hand! (In addition you're playing for only half the pot).

And that would be bad enough, but you don't even have the damned thing yet. On top of the 2nd nut flush being especially difficult to play when low is already present, you don't even have the 2nd nut flush yet!

"Don't draw for trouble."

Exactly right. Fold PF. If you're going to play this hand, you're looking to flop a set w/ no lows possible, or, at the very least, see the As on the flop to lock up a nut high draw. With no low and second nut flush, we're playing for half the pot and begging for heartbreak here.
