Default NL25 Party; Top pair becomes 2 pair on river ...

Villain is 26/21 over 150 or so hands and fairly aggressive.
I don't think there's much value in raising river right?
Thoughts on the other streets?

Cbet flop.
This changes everything. As played, I raise river. If Cbet flop & he call & check on turn, I check behind, he bets river, I raise. Same result I guess.

bet the flop
as played, i might raise the turn and hope to take it down right here
river is close between calling and raise/folding.

I think your biggest mistake was to check the flop.

What hands is he likely to call a flop c-bet with that I can beat?
I guess the river could be raised but I wasn't sure.

Who cares, our hand is weak, we don't know if homeboy got an ace, and we definitely don't want him to improve to 2 pair or a straight with some garbage. If he calls, he is saying "Hm, okay, I got yer ace beat I think," and this is why we plan to check behind on turn hoping to improve on river, or call a weaksauce bet.

I like the flop check. I begrudginly call the river, but I may also consider raising the turn for protection.

I just think that when a straightforward fairly aggressive player checks in this situation he's [either going for a C/R which I have to fold to, or has nothing at all] most of the time.

Flop check is a long-term loss for you. C-bet NO MATTER WHAT YOU HIT! Aggression usually wins pots. Also, with his tight-aggressive play, you may get a fold. I'm thinking that he either hit the jack, hit middle/bottom pair on the flop, or he caught the flush draw, and made it on the river. Either way, if I'm putting any money in on the river, it's a call.
