Re: Bands that drastically changed musical styles
[ QUOTE ]
Moby- Techno/Electronica to Ambient/Gosphel [/ QUOTE ] I would disagree with this one as Moby has continually ventured into different types of music with all of it being based in some form of electronic music... And Radiohead... I disagree with that because OK Computer is a perfect segway between the musical styles of The Bends and Kid A/Amnesiac. OK Computer combined some electronic style with their older music, and Kid A/Amnesiac just went deeper into the electronic stuff. I equate it with The Beatles getting less accessible as they moved forward. Not extreme change IMO. |

Re: Bands that drastically changed musical styles
nath,
Goo Goo Dolls were a punk band for the better part of a decade before "Name" started them changing everything. solids, Incubus did neither Amber nor Love Song. Those are two 311 tracks. Also, Incubus would be a horrible choice b/c they have a great slower song on S.C.I.E.N.C.E. called Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song) |

Re: Bands that drastically changed musical styles
it doesnt strictly fit the thread title and most people dont know them but Eve's Plum played some guitar-heavy, intense rock. the band broke up and the lead singer donned a stage name, Vitamin C, and put out pop-teen albums.

The new silverchair album is almost unrecognizable. Basically no resemblance to their former self - still good tho.

I think Incubus is a decent example, though. Think 'A Certain Shade of Green' compared to 'Aqueous Transmission'. |

Re: Bands that drastically changed musical styles
And just to interpret the title of the post in a different way, the song Merry-Go-Bye-Bye from Mr. Bungle has maybe one of the most drastic changes ever in a song, from 50's doo-wop to hardcore thrash/noise metal in a matter of seconds.
Mr. Bungle drastically changed musical styles from song to song and in most cases within each song. But that is because they were a bunch of badass musical geniuses who liked to show off. [/bungle stroke session] |

[ QUOTE ]
Bob Dylan- Folk - Rock - Country - Gospel - Hip-Hop - Folk I may be missing a few genres in there, and the hip-hop is obv. a joke, but the man has changed gears, both musically and vocally, many times in his career. [/ QUOTE ] Subterranean Homesick Blues is actually considered to be the first rap song ever... |
