The satellites are never run 11 handed. That is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard and it is not true at all. Who ever posted that is a big fat liar. He prolly works for Borgata.

The Turbo satellites are turbo for a reason. They take about an hour of your time. They do start with 1ooo in chips and the blinds start at 25-50. They are 10 minute blind rounds. Everyone that plays them loves them, in fact some people play more than one for their chance to take a seat. It's 30 dollars for a chance to win a $250 seat into a decent guarantee tournament. Even if you play 8 satellites you are still in the positive for 10 bucks, and if you can't take down a seat in 8 satellites then you prolly shouldn't even be playing in a big tournament like this.

Also, I heard a couple people comparing this tournament to the guarantee tournaments that Tropicana ran. If Tropicana didn't make their numbers to break even they would take the difference out of the prize pool and second place could go home with $150 bucks in a $10,000 guarantee tourney. That is not the case with this one at SHowboat. The management has assured me that the prize pool will stay filled and the casino will make up the difference if they are short players.

With all the hype this tournament is generating in Atlantic City, I am sure it will sell out, and the $20,000 guarantee will be met and surpassed.

They are taking registration for the seats now, and people are buying them up. The Satellites are running all day in the room, mostly during the day though, since their 7 PM tournament usually fills their room up.

Posters who are complaining about the double vig are just good examples of poker players who will complain about anything, and we have all had run in's with those kind of people. What do you care about the casino taking money twice? It's really only 5 bucks extra in vigs out of your pocket, the rest is eaten up by the players who don't take down the seat.

To sum my rambling up, the satellites are great. Go up to Showboat and try one. If you can't get into a satellite or if you just don't want to play one then buy your seat outright. It is only $250 bucks. I have blown through that in two hands on a 1-2 game.

Just wanted to throw in my two cents here, and concur with Syrialkilla regarding the $20K guarantee.

I play the Showboat tournaments often and spoke at length with Chris (the new Poker Room Manager, who by the way has some great ideas and is really trying to elevate the showboat's poker room).

My big concern with the tournament was that all the prize pool would be sucked up by the 1st place guarantee (as happens at the Tropicana).

Chris assured me that they are not doing this. Rather they will have their normal payout structure (around 35-40% for 1st, 17-20% for 2nd, etc...) and if there is not a big enough pool, the showboat will make up the difference for 1st place to make it $20K.

As for the structure it is pretty good, 25/50 to start with 25 minute blinds, $10,000 in TChips.

And yes the tournament will be held in the Ballroom downstairs so they will be able to accomodate everyone without having to go 11 handed.

The basic information is now on the website, but unfortunately Harrah's doesn't seem to see the need for lots of detail so there is not much the Poker Room people can do. Its a Harrah's thing, not the Showboat Poker Room's lack of effort.

OK....I guess I have gotten up to 5 cents or so, so I'll shut up now....

For those that are curious, I called the Showboat yesterday and they said if they have seats available they will be having day of registration starting at 9am (on the 15th) in the ballroom. I have my seat already, gives me more time to sleep the day of! See you all there.

Showboat is hosting a day of registration for this tournament. Get there as early as you can cause the line will prolly be out the door. If you can get into town Friday night that is much better and you can buy your seat in the cage upstairs in their poker room. Day of registration will be held in the ballroom downstairs, where the tournament will be. They are capping at around 400 though and are expecting to sell out early.

They are running alot more satellites now too. They got 13 going on Saturday. If peeps live around AC its definitely worth it to take the day and try a couple satellites.

O! and I heard they are offering hotel packages to people who are playin in the tournament and want to stay at the boat. Its a room, breakfast and passes into the House of Blues FOundation Room, which is a pretty cool place to be.

Anyway..see you guys there on the 15th! Oh and its my birthday so someone bring a cake!

Thoughts on this structure?

Would seem a lot better if it was closer to 40 minutes than 25 minutes?

I don't play live tournaments ever (this would be my biggest)...

assuming the bad players that will be in this tourney does this structure have enough "play"?

Based upon what we know, this is comparing the Showboat regular tournament structure to "The Poker Tournament" structure.

------------------REGULAR----------"THE TOURNAMENT"
Buy-In------------$65-$125---------$250
Starting Chips----10,000-----------10,000
Starting Blinds---50/100-----------25/50
Level-------------20 minutes-------25 minutes
Antes-------------None-------------Yes (level 4?)

25 minute levels seems about right given other tournaments in town and the time/chips per juice.
