That was a really rough clip for Romney, that deputy grilled him pretty good.

Ouch!
Romney just got pwned by a guy who has a kid in Iraq. No way he can even respond. He's babbling about success of the surge. Pandered about the military. Not good. Not Presidential. He should have talked about the importance of the election process and how his kid is making that process work. |

[ QUOTE ]
Yeah, Paul is doing ok considering everyone is against him. There's a good amount in the crowd that cheered for his anti-war stance and want the war ended, but most are pro war. All of the other candidates are playing the "we must support the troops and see this though for America" card. I thought Paul had some good points. [/ QUOTE ] I agree. But, I don't think he's delivering them well. |

[ QUOTE ] "He says you should make the airlines responsible for the safety of their passengers and keep the government out. " Idiotic [/ QUOTE ] Why? You don't think airlines are capable of protecting their planes? [/ QUOTE ] Are they capable? Yes. Would they do it as effectively and as cost efficiently? No. Would most foreign airlines be as diligent without US requirements in order to land? Not a chance. |

[ QUOTE ] "He says you should make the airlines responsible for the safety of their passengers and keep the government out. " Idiotic [/ QUOTE ] Why? You don't think airlines are capable of protecting their planes? [/ QUOTE ] The bigger concern is the safety of the people and property those planes are capable of crashing into. I'm not saying the government would necessarily do a better job, but you have to wonder whether an airline that is on the verge of insolvency would be tempted to cut security corners to make ends meet. The difference between airlines and most other economic transactions is that the threat of PUBLIC harm from the malfeasance or negligence of the company is much greater. GM makes a bad car and maybe a couple of people die. If an airline has poor security thousands of people could die and there could be economic damage in the hundreds of billions. And what happens if they're busto? There's much more nuance to this issue then simply "Let the airlines take care of it." |
