Doesnt the 6 on the turn make is less likely we are called here with range we beat compared to a non pairing turn?

1) Villian might fear we have a 6
2) If he has a 9, IMO he is less likely to call since he
has fewer outs if behind

I would shove against a player who is likely to call with inferior hands .I would check against players who will bet with more inferior hands than he would had he called your bet .

This is obviously what we want, but it's pretty tough to know against a total unknown. I was mostly looking for what your first instinct would be in the hand.

In the actual hand I checked to induce a bluff from a draw or air. I think that expands his range more than just shoving does, especially since he has more than a PSB left. It's probably close though, and I don't think either play is necessarily bad. I know I put c/f in my OP as an option, but I can't see myself ever folding once I get to the turn. Villain ended up shoving with Qc7c and missed on the river so MHIG.

nice hand

Guess I missed most of the discussion but I like the check here for the reasons already discussed.
