Default Suited gap Connectors on the button (10NL)

Since I've come back, I've, been playing extremely nitty and been folding these for the most part, but I'm trying to open my game up more. How bad did I butcher this?

SB: $9.55
BB: $9.15
UTG: $3.00
CO: $8.70
Hero (BTN): $11.50

Preflop: Hero is dealt 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5 Players)

BB checks, Hero checks

Pot Size: $5.75 ($0.55 Rake)

BB had 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (a pair of Tens) and WON (+$2.35)
Hero had 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (a pair of Sevens) and LOST (-$2.85)

i usually play it the same except opponent depending I may just call the flop and then raise the turn when I pick up the oesd.

One thing you need to be sure of is how loose the blinds are. You want to loosen up your button play against tight players...and tighten up against the loose ones.

The reason is you are taking a speculative hand against a loose opponent who is very hard to put a range on when they are in the blinds.

if the blinds are loose you will find yourself in a lot of hands like these.

Raise more on the flop, a pot sized raise is $1.95 so how about $1.60? Just calling the flop is fine too. The rest is standard.

ok, I'm a novice. Why are we raising the flop at all? Our speculative hand missed, has very little chance to improve, and our opponent isn't showing much inclination to fold.

It most definitely did not 'miss.' We have mid pair on a board where it could very likely be good at this point, and continued agression has a way of just... winning pots.

Still I'd probably just clal flop and then maybe raise turn when the equity of different draws goes down.

This looks good, except the size of the flop raise. Would you raise that amount with an overpair? I doubt you'd want to give a draw 3-1 immediate on their money.

Calling, raising, or folding flop donks is a bit of an art -- and you need to take game flow into consideration more than just about any other maneuver I can think in you choice (as much as flop texture, villain type, your hand, his range... where in a typical situation, all of these are more important than game flow.)
