Re: Why not an Iraqi referrendum on US troop witdrawal?
[ QUOTE ]
IMO, this is what the anti-war people should be pushing for. [/ QUOTE ] There's a bi-partisan consensus that the unwashed masses must never be allowed to interfere with foreign policy. If public demands were strong enough to force a referendum through the gatekeepers of both parties, then we'd already have enough leverage to end the war. The Dems are not ending the war -- none of them (except Kucinich) are even saying so. They say they don't like the war, and dangle the carrot of "draw downs," but they are not pulling out altogether, ever, unless forced to by a massively mobilized public. This war won't end until families stop offering up their children, and citizens lay down on the airstrips. |

What are you talking about? Richardson has been pushing that he will take out every single troop out of Iraq asap as President.

Sadly, law by referundum has turned out pretty bad in most places where it is widely used.

Re: Why not an Iraqi referrendum on US troop witdrawal?
[ QUOTE ]
So once these killing start to slow the US will have created an Iraqi Armed forces which will be loyal to the US and American dollar which will basically be hired to protect the government that is elected by the defence department. Then the war can be claimed to have finished. [/ QUOTE ] There is absolutely zero chance that this will happen. You're basically saying that the US will create a loyal mercenary army made up of Iraqi citizens so well paid and well armed that they can, and will, control the insurgency, and yet so loyal to the US that they won't overthrow the puppet government. Good luck with that. |

Sadly, law by referundum has turned out pretty bad in most places where it is widely used. [/ QUOTE ] I'd be interested to hear where it turned bad when people were deciding about their freedom/independence/security issues and about countries/regions where people did regret their decision and would like to change it back later. Thx. |
