Default Stars $20+2, overpair on a dangerous board OOP

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t20 (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

CO (t1100)

SB (t1530)
Hero (t1500)
UTG (t1500)
UTG+1 (t1500)
MP1 (t1100)
MP2 (t2300)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
3 folds, MP2 calls t20, 1 fold, CO calls t20, 1 fold, SB completes, Hero checks.

SB checks, Hero bets t80, MP2 calls t80, CO calls t80, SB folds.

Turn: (t320) 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players)
Hero bets t320, MP2 calls t320, CO folds.

River: (t960) A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, MP2 checks.

Final Pot: t960

Results in white below:
Hero has 8h 8d (two pair, eights and fives).
MP2 has 5s 6h (three of a kind, fives).
Outcome: MP2 wins t960.

I was thinking of raising preflop to 80, but that could force me to play a big pot in a pot where I don't know if I'm good. If he had pushed on the river I probably would have called because a hand or two eqarlier he made a big bet on the turn in a multiway pot and then a big bet on the river against two people, and insinuated afterward that he was bluffing.

if youre going to lead at a multi way flop like this after taking 88 for set value you have to set a limit on the pot size with your marginal hand; basically you shouldnt be willing to play a huge pot with your hand after getting called in two places, im trying to just show down after the flop. im checking turn.

I quite like this line in a limped pot - there's not many likely overpairs out, A4-A7/66 are probably calling, as are a lot of flush/straight/combo draws.

I'd bet less on the turn - maybe 220ish. I think he's more likely/drawing or behind and I'd prefer to keep him guessing about my hand than have to start guessing about his. If he comes over the top, easy fold - if he calls, there's a decision to be made if he bets the river.

i would bet the flop and if i miss on the turn then i would try to get a cheap showdown and fold to any sign of strength.
