Default Makino Sushi Buffet Las Vegas - New Location

I've heard this place is really good and usually mobbed which means even the buffet sushi and entrees are very fresh. I've never been as everyone i know out here is decidedly anti sushi.

I'm sure a few people here have been, i'd like to here some reviews.

Side note: is there a fish monger in vegas that sells toro?

I have been to two Makino locations. They are acceptable but not particularly good. I prefer all you can seat sushi where they make your food to order.

IMO, buffet sushi can never be fresh enough to satisfy my tastes. You don't get to see it prepared so you have no idea how long it's been sitting in the prep area or how fresh the fish really is.

The freshness that counts is the freshness of the fish. Even if you see the chef cut and assemble the sushi, you don't know how old the piece of fish he's working with is.

Makino has such huge turnover, that I don't think any fish would have a chance to get too old there.

Which is ironic since most raw sushi served in the United States now is frozen fish.

I never understood why sushi is so addictive and so freaking good... I absolutely love and crave it but comprehensively i never figured out what I like about it so much

Agreed. as a visitor from L.A., I've been to Makino only 2x's, but on both visits the place was absolutely completely PACKED. I'd expect the turnover is really high which usually means nothing sits in the frig/freezer very long at all.

I still stand by Sushi Mon on sahara and I think Cimarron (sp?) (This is close to sahara and buffalo, an intersection people may be more familiar with.)
Everything made to order and about $25 for dinner. Really good.
Makino kinda sucks frankly.
