I know this may sound stupid, but do you tell the dealer to call the floor because you want to switch, or do you just walk up to the floor person and say you want to change?

I haven't played much live other than a few trips to the Trop and one trip to vegas, and i was playing limit at the time.

Walk up to the floor. Asking the dealer to call the floor is reserved for serious table disagreements, or worse.
