Edge over too loose players and \"max looseness\"
I just moved up to 10/20 and 15/30 because I saw some games with very high vp$ip and i assumed that I could win over these games just by playing somewhat tighter then my opponents.
Anyways, this got me to think about how much my edge will be to play in too loose games if we assume that all players has the same postflop skills. |

Re: Edge over too loose players and \"max looseness\"
Yes, there are players who play too loose preflop and you make some money just by playing better starters than them. However, it's rare to find opponents who are so loose that you are making a ton of money off of them from preflop play alone. A lot of the players end up being 40/30 or 37/21 and that's a lot less exploitable than someone who is 50/2 or 76/47.
The games are somewhat tougher because a few of the loose players are quite good after the flop and most of the other loose players are not horrible. They still make bad decisions after the flop, but they usually aren't ridiculously bad. So the end result is that the games are still beatable, but the edge isn't as great as it used to be and consequently the variance you will experience (in the form of larger and more prolonged downswings) will be more painful. (Technically the variance isn't any higher, but it feels worse when your winrate is lower.) |

Re: Edge over too loose players and \"max looseness\"
A huge flaw in this is that not all players have the same post flop skills.

Also, at 15/30 the blind structure makes a fairly laggy style much closer to optimal.

Re: Edge over too loose players and \"max looseness\"
What do u mean with very high VPIP?
And what do u mean with playing to loose (but playing the same postflop)? I much prefer playing a 20/15 then a 37/21. Not because I will win more from the former, but he will not be in the way when I play the other worse players, so I make more overall. Also, if u got a few 50/5 at ur table, playing really loose is better then playing a bit tighter then the other ok players. |

Well I said: ASSUMING that we all have same postflopskills. It doesnt really matter for the question but I personally play too loose preflop but believe my postflopskills are better then average at these levels.

Re: Edge over too loose players and \"max looseness\"
I believe that the max looseness you can run is 70 VPIP. This assumes superior postflop skills. Preflop raise depends some regarding the looseness. Maximum stats combined would be around 70/40-style player...

Imho they will adapt there play to your looseness and raise/3bet you with a big preflop edge. I believe we have to see there cards to overcome this disadvantage. |

Re: Edge over too loose players and \"max looseness\"
I once saw a guy play 55/45 4-5 players average. He was atleast so good that there was no waiting list and the table sometimes broke with him left.
