yea i think 2000-2250 or so on flop is good. I slow down on turn however. I'd just check behind and make him bet on the river. If he shoves I would probably have to fold and if he fires out 2k or so I'd call

I'd also bet about 2k on the flop.

I like the turn shove here, because I think it looks weak (to him) and you will get calls from AJ when playing weaker players.

However, this could be a leak of mine as I don't always know when to shut down when it appears someone is on a draw and a scare card comes. What do people think about a check on the turn here? Is that a bad option?

I agree with other responses - bet around 2000-2200 on the flop. This also makes the turn a little easier because a. if he just calls I think we can probably put him on some kind of J, whereas if he pushes it is more likely he's on a FD, and b. he'll be more committed to your push on the turn.

To answer your other question, don't push on the flop - it's a huge overbet. I like getting it all in on the turn better because we keep more hands that we beat in the pot.

I hate to play scared here but a limp/call and check/call flop would send up some warning flares here. Is he the kind of player who likes limp/calling something like AJ, QJ, JT preflop? If not, that limp/call makes me think small to mid pocket pair. I'm more worried about a set on the turn here than a flush.
