Chicago --> Grand Canyon Road trip, things to see?

So this friday I'll be taking a road trip with my family to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Having never been out of the midwest, I really don't know what to expect.

Can people give some suggestions on what to see/where to go? We plan on stopping in Colorado to camp for at least a day. Other than that we haven't even planned anything yet.

BTW, we plan on being gone for two weeks.

You're almost there by this point, but I'd recommend Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park in Utah.

excellent advice...bryce canyon is more beautiful and intimate than the grand canyon...grand canyon is just sooooooooooo huge, tough to hike, and sometimes cold and rainy...although it is as beautiful as a painted picture...surreal experience

Does family include little kids? I was going to suggest a really cool bar in Colorado Springs.
