It's not just about saving a few bucks. You can save a ton of money. Cutting out a doctor's visit can save you a lot of money right there, not to mention time. Also, doctors aren't always willing to prescribe anything you ask for, or prescribe for lengthy periods, especially without trying to tweak more money out of the process by making you take more tests and pay for more visits. [/ QUOTE ] Sorry to jump back to this, but I'll take offense. You're damn right I'm not going to prescribe "anything you ask for ... for lenghty periods" unless I'm convinced that you actually need the drug. If you want to self prescribe, go nuts, order whatever you want online. It's your life, roll the dice. I'm not going to risk my professional career because you say you "need" some medication. [censored] you for suggesting that I want to "tweak" more money out of you. Do you have any idea how much a doctor makes for a typical office visit? |

Re: Sketchy Internet \"pharmacies\"
The person in question was ordering large amounts 500+ of Oxycontin 80mg each week. I believe he was getting them very cheap as well, and the going rate in Boston when I was
in school a few years ago was usually a buck a milligram, so one pill would usually run u anywhere from $65 to $80. I didn t personally know the person, but my friend and I were chillen, ripping bong hits, and not going to class. The same old, and decided to get jiggy with it and get a jig. I gave my friend my money, and he left to get the pills. He came back and was like "holy [censored]", I just saw the DEA raid the kids apartment. After all the smoke cleared, it ended up that the DEA had been watching him, and estimated he had ordered nearly 5,000 OC's through this internet site. He would get the pills fed ex'd to him every Tuesday, and would sell them and probably was making a $hit load of loot. On a side note, now since OC's have somewhat diminished around my hometown area and New England, everyone just does heroin now. Much cheaper for the same thing. I def would not advise that! Also, I wrote my college English paper on Purdue Pharmaceuticals. They are the people who manufacture Oxy-Contin and they sure have a few scandals of their own. My paper was mainly about Purdue's practices and how they were illegally, unethically, and down-right dirty. I believe Purdue as well as Doctors were the main cause behind the huge addiction rate to this drug. They knew all along suburban kids were hooked on their [censored], but didn't give a [censored] because they were rakin in over a billion a year. Doctors continued to over prescribe the pill since Purdue advised the it was for "moderate" too severe pain. Moderate [censored] pain, ha ha, the [censored] is doctor made heroin! Lots a crazy [censored] on this issue if u guys are interested in reading it. Google Dr. Feelgood, Bridgeport CT....Purdue unethical practices, etc..... I think things have been straightened out now, and it is very hard to obtain a prescription for OCs, but back in the late nineties, early 00, those [censored] were everywhere. The first time I took one was when I was 16, (9 years ago) and my friend told me it was a strong perc. I got so [censored] up, and this was from eating it! After the hole [censored] broke lose, of being able to break up the pill, and sniff it, thats when the trouble came with all the addiction. On a side note, Purdue COULD have easily avoided all of this, by putting naltrexone (an opiate blocker)within the pill, so if the pill is dis figured in any way, it basically kills the drug or any type of high a person could get. I guess just now they are in development of this, where they should have done this from the start. Sorry for rambling, there is so much more in my head about this dumb [censored], especially since a close friend become hooked on this and then eventually started shooting heroin and has since passed away due to his addiction. Re: Sketchy Internet \"pharmacies\"
No I wouldn't. I talk to and examine my patients. Then I decide what the next step is. I discuss my reasoning with them and offer the options that I think are appropriate. If I think more tests are needed, I order them. If drugs are appropriate, I prescribe them. I spent way too many years in school and training to abandon my professional opinion just because the patient says they want/need a drug. I don't worry about the FDA/government, because my own ethics keep me out of trouble.
Its not that I'm so perfect or that I refuse to prescribe drugs for my patients. If you are young and healthy, then maybe the doctor for you is the one who doesn't care, and will write for anything as long as it gets you out of the office sooner. When you actually have a problem, you might want a doctor who will take the time to think about it before prescribing whatever you saw advertised on TV last night. The proliferation of advertising for pharmaceuticals and the massive amount of (often dubious) information on the internet has made many people feel that the doctor doesn't really know any more than they do. When your car breaks down, you go to the mechanic. Maybe you get a second opinion, but rarely does anyone show up and tell the mechanic how to fix the car. |

OK, I know there are legit online pharmacy providers where you can get a prescription filled, like drugstore.com. I am not talking about those places. I am talking about stuff like this comment "Recently I had a friend give me some viagra he got off the internet" from this DonkeyKongSr thread. I'm assuming this is from some "Buy Viagra online" place that I see spam for all the time. So, here's my question. Are many people actually taking drugs from these places? Is this becoming a standard way for people to just order whatever prescription drug they want? I am not just talking impotence pills, but really any prescription pill these places sell. Basically, I was pretty surprised to read that. The idea of taking a pill that comes from some random online site seems super sketch to me. Am I just behind the times here or do most people feel the same way? [/ QUOTE ] I have been running websites marketing online pharmacies for almost 4 years now. I also worked for a company which was despensing and shipping out pharmaceuticals without RX to customers, back when DEA wasnt that strict. I still run my own online pharma sites. I can answer any questions u guys have about these programs. First of all, its not illegal to buy or sell "non-controlled" medications, such as erectyle dysfunction drugs, anti depressants, antibiotics, some muscle relaxers and some pain killers. It is however, illegal to buy and sell controlled medications, these are schedule IV and up drugs under the Convention on Psychotropic Substances such as Vicodin, xanax, testosterone, phentermine, and ambien. Buying these could get YOU arrested, and are most likely being shipped by some shady off shore pharma. The reason why drugs are usually cheap online is because they sell GENERIC versions of these drugs. FOr example, this means that when u buy Viagra, ur actually buying sildenafil which is viagra's scientific name. IT is the same exact drug it will do the same exact thing and it is the same quality, only thing that is different there is no big corporation behind it like Pfizer that spends money marketing it under the name viagra, so therefore it becomes cheaper. Right now i am hooked up with two suppliers for my websites. One resides in the USA, and they are abiding to the laws the best they could, they have been in business for over 4 years and have always been in the US. They only sell non controlled meds, and they only ship to a specific states where legistlation doesnt prohibit buying Rx without Rx. However since this supplier is in the US and is a legit business, that means they have to pay taxes, and this makes their medications alot more expensive. But over the years they have proven to be very reliable to my customers. They ship all products next Day FEDEX, for a $18 flat fee. My other supplier resides off shore, they also sell only non-controlled meds. I believe their products are coming from Canada. They mostly sell generics and the prices are great. Only down side is shipping would be thru AIR mail or courier, and it takes a while to get ur meds. Again ask me anyquestions u guys want about ther online pharma biz. i've been in it for a long time and dealt with all kinds of pharmas, shady and legit. Shameless plug: http://www.buy-rx-usa.com |

OK, what state allows prescription meds to be dispensed without a prescription???? [/ QUOTE ] i dunno how exactly the law works. but the only states the US supplier cant ship to are: AR, AZ, CA, FL, IA, ID, KY, MO, MT, NC, NV, OK, TX, UT, VA, WV I think it has to do with state law about physical doctor patient consultation. Because this supplier does an online doctor and patient consultation, and maybe the other states allow that. |

Re: Sketchy Internet \"pharmacies\"
I read an article about the "online doctor-patient consultation" and the impression I got was that the doctors who were doing it tended to be doctors close to retirement or in financial trouble, and that doctors were starting to lose licenses now that their online stuff was getting reviewed.
