Isnt this completely wrong from a commitment threshold point of view?

Care to explain? Perhaps you should reread the book.

Well when he bet the turn he has put a third of his stack in, almost commiting himself. Obviously building a massive pot with just a flush draw and overs isnt a good idea on the turn...
Or am i missing something?

Someone this loose passive very rarely c/r the turn, so we're not all that worried about getting our stack in here. The move is just an extended semibluff. I'm not a huge fan of it since someone this loose and passive is never folding 66+, any draw, any 9 or much of anything else for that matter. I prefer a check.

9 spades minus 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and the 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
Should be 7 out of 43 cards = .16 ~ 1:6

uh what? It's just 9 spades, flat.

Assuming he stacks off to a flush (which he will), it's $50 to win $300, or 6:1 odds. The odds of hitting your flush are about 4:1, so you can call.

Next time just check behind though

it's very marginal, but i think you have the odds to hit your flush. if you hit the flush on a non pairing board you stack him 100% of the time. if you hit an ace or jack, do not bet if he checks to you, or call if he shoves

i don't like double barelling calling stations very much, taking the free card is a much better option IMO.

Cbetting is fine as you have a massive draw and have an equity advantage against almost anything he has. you basically crush his range. but on the turn now you are usually behind, so take the free card
