Re: n00b variance question
[ QUOTE ]
Also, on a flop that comes Axx, check behind the flop. Yeah, free cards, but any reasonable draw has a good chance of playing you off TPMK on the flop anyway, so keep it small, and valuebet safe-looking turns...) [/ QUOTE ] I always have trouble with recommendations like that.. (a lot of people say that) Im pretty much always betting half the pot cont betting on Axx flops.. where I have a fairly high success rate.. All of a sudden I check behind? reveals so much about my distribution when I bet and when I dont Maybe I should check TPMK behind as well as some other hands planning to turn bluff if they dont bet? Lead out AK/AQ and other missed hands? |

Re: n00b variance question
Well, if you are always c-betting Axx flops 4 ways, I think that's pretty exploitable.

Re: n00b variance question
It's the 4-handed pot more than the flop texture

Re: n00b variance question
[ QUOTE ]
In NL because so little showdowns are seen , it's hard to figure if you are just getting outflopped constantly, or you are getting pushed over.. How else are you supposed to counter this, other than looking people up light? [/ QUOTE ] In the couple months I have been playing whenver I go on a bad run I feel like I am being pushed around. Its mostly psychological and I'm sure you have a very good idea of when you need to start loking ppl up. [ QUOTE ] Maybe I should check TPMK behind as well as some other hands planning to turn bluff if they dont bet [/ QUOTE ] Yes, I say if you can balance your play like this there is no way they can ever confidently put you on a range. Obviously this is much tougher live as you see so many less hands so not sure how applicable it is. |

Re: n00b variance question
Just from the results I'd say this is not variance, its obviously possible I'm wrong. The thing about a live 2/5 game is you should be stealing / crushing them so bad the big pots don't have that much of an effect. Online in 6 max games a lot of your results will be determined by the big pots but in soft live games you should almost win no matter what unless the big pots are just overwhelmingly bad for you one day.

I dont really follow you |

Re: n00b variance question
If I'm playing live 2/5 NL I'd expect to win many hundreds of dollars in a session in pots that are smaller than $100 each, because people play bad and let you rob them blind all day. If I then lose two big pots that cost me $1000 I'd expect to be closer to even than down $1000.
