CAN THIS LIVE RAKE BE BEAT
Howdy's all...
My local casino is trying out a new pot limit hi/lo game... its a 1/2 pot limit game with a 20-100 buy in.. The rake is 10% to a maximum of $6, plus a $5 per hour time charge, NO TIPPING IS ALLOWED This seems to be ridicously high, especially when comparing to the online enviornment, however the players are beyond what u would call terrible... on the table that was there the other night i doubt all but two of the 10 players are capable of beating a 1cent 2 cent game online. It usually 6-7 to a raised flop and anything better then an a-6 low draw almost always gets called down. So what do u guys think.. is this game worth playing?? |

No, it can't be beat. [/ QUOTE ] LOL hopefully joking. Nits are always so worried about the fckn drop, and nits abound in O8 (especially PL/NL). Assuming you're online competent, you're going to slaughter this game for 1-2 average stacks per hour, minus the time charge and a bit less than 1/10th of the roughly $100/hour that's getting raked. So, you're going to make $50/hour absolute minimum in this game, if you're any good at all. Seems like a bad business move for the room to drag soooo much, though; the non-experts are going to get destroyed, between pushing their money around, donating to the few good players, and the massive duckets going down the drain. |

[/ QUOTE ] WORD. the difference between awful players and decent players in this game is huge. In limit there are some rake structures that are almost impossible to beat. In big bet, it all depends on the max stack sizes and how truly awful your opponents are. |

Isn't this game destined to die? I understand that it can be profitable but how long before the donkeys switch to something else?

[/ QUOTE ] You do realize they're probably pulling $175/hour off the table, which is equivalent to nearly two buy-ins? Assuming everyone at the table would buy in twice for the full amount, the rake would literally break the game in eleven hours from one stand point, though it would be impossible. Still, for this game to be profitable you either have to have a huge edge, or they need to raise the buy-in so you can play deep. Yuck. Play online. Wtf. |

Re: CAN THIS LIVE RAKE BE BEAT
This has been my experience in some other games at casinos where the rake is high (usually the lower stakes, often there are 2 stakes, like 3/6 and 6/12 that have the same $ in rake!). I don't like sitting at games with friends because typically there is only room for 1 or 2 people to make a profit unless the suckers go broke a lot and either rebuy or get up and let another sit down. So much money leaves the table that in order for me to profit each loser at the table has to lose a LOT.
