200BB stacks, Gut shot + flush draw, is it worth it?
Alright, been lurking in here long enough, time to participate.
My line here is probably debatable, i think he gives me the exact implied odds i need on the turn to call this, but i'd like to know what you all think. This guy is 17/12, but opened up when we played heads-up or 3 handed... Absolute Poker No Limit Holdem Ring game Blinds: $0.50/$1 3 players Converter Stack sizes: Button: $200.40 Hero: $209.27 BB: $55.85 Pre-flop: (3 players) Hero is SB with T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Button raises to $4, Hero raises to $13.5, BB folds, Button calls. Flop: 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($28, 2 players) Hero bets $14, Button raises to $39, Hero calls $25 (pot was $81). Turn: A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ($106, 2 players) Hero checks, Button bets $66, Hero ??? (Villain has $82 behind) |

Re: 200BB stacks, Gut shot + flush draw, is it worth it?
Preflop is marginal but ok 3-handed I guess. If you think he's opened up then I don't hate 3-betting a little light.
If you're going to 3bet pre then you should probably bet more on the flop. Half pot bets usually scream weakness. Sometimes I'll raise them on principle alone. Bet sizing in 3bet pots is very important. You should definitely fold to the flop raise. You don't have implied odds to call for your gutshot. If you are calling the flop raise, I hope it's to make some kind of play on the turn. The turn is a really easy check/fold for me but that's mostly because I don't like the line you took in the hand. The way you played it, you might consider bet/call on the turn and hope to hit on the river if he actually does raise you all-in. That line would definitely be a lot easier if the turn was a spade that didn't pair. The tricky part about check-calling is the only card that is likely to get paid off when you hit is a non-spade queen and who knows if all 12 of your outs are even clean... I'd probably count on 9 or 10 outs here being good. On top of all that the turn paired the board. You probably won't get paid off by many worse hands when your draw gets there, but are very likely to payoff someone holding a full house if you happen to hit your draw (you have huge reverse implied odds). Basically I could advocate folding on just about every street here. The only one that isn't a huge mistake imho is preflop, and that's only because you're 3-handed here and have a read. |

Good lord fold the flop. Fold the turn. This hand is not in the least bit hard.

Re: 200BB stacks, Gut shot + flush draw, is it worth it?
I guess i overrated my chances here a little... I get close to 3.5:1 in implied odds, but my equity is lower than i thought at first (would need like 5.5:1)
Board: 3s Jh Ad As Dead: equity win tie pots won pots tied Hand 0: 17.914% 17.91% 00.00% 268 0.00 { KsTs } Hand 1: 82.086% 82.09% 00.00% 1228 0.00 { A9s+, A9o+ } My biggest mistake probably was to do this OOP, which is what i need to work on right now. Thanks for the inputs! (BTW, i did fold the turn...) |

gross, fold flop, given that fold turn, you are drawing dead here so often.
