I know you're not being literal when you call it slave labor, but I still want to point out that African slaves were captured and brought here in chains, whereas illegal immigrants are bending over backward, risking prison and death just to get here.

[/ QUOTE ]

Right, its all the good parts of slave labor with none of the bad parts.

This might have been be true if unskilled immigrants came here as guestworkers with no path to citizenship and no birthright citizenship for their children, but this is not the case.

I would say that an increased proportion of voters that favor bigger government (which a sizable majority of Mexican immigrants do), socialized healthcare and affirmative action etc. is a 'bad part' if you appreciate freedom.

Iron81 ought to focus his attention on people who make useless posts like this, instead of making B.S. racist accusations.

I'm not in favor of the UIEGA. But since its the law they should enforce it.

Immigration is the backbone of the "theory" of America.

America is supposed to be the nation of shared ideals and the dream of he works hardest succeeds, rewarding entrepeneurs and innovators. NOT the nation defined by geography, ethnicity, nor race.

Restricting (in the way most republicans/super conservatives wish to) immigration is yet another symptom of the disease which may doom America.

Those who would claim restricting immigration is "protecting the homeland" or some such crap, are hypocritical IMO.

I believe in immigration. The great American melting pot and all. Just believe immigration laws should be enforced. Whats wrong with immigrates coming into the country by legal means. Immigrates who come in legally most likely will be law abiding and become good productive Americans. Do think those who come in illegally will be? How about the three killers in New Jeresy for example.

I used to be oppposed to illegal immigration, but than I realized that our country prospers when we have slaves, or near slaves, be it black, irish/italian, or mexicans, so I have changed my tune. If mexicans want to come across the boarder, since Im in a perfect position to get rich off them and take advatage of them, I have no problem with it anymore. We should have some kind of check-in system though as, there are actual terrorists trying to cross (Im pretty sure last week we got 2 iraqi terrorists trying to cross)

[/ QUOTE ]

Although perhaps not the best way to word this, this is EXACTLY correct, and it is shocking to me that more Americans don't see this. Is it because most Americans are not in a position to take advantage of the immigrants? Because I think that most Americans probably are, although they might not realize it.

[/ QUOTE ]

I dont necessarily think every american, or even that many really are in a position to "directly" profit off of mexicans, but the driving forces behind our economy are. the libs are too busy making sure that everyone knows how PC they are by sticking up for brown people, and the republicans in power pretty much see things as I do, but the "normal" republicans are brainwashed, into thinking that they are stealing jobs/dont see the benefits of slave labor.

[/ QUOTE ]

Pretty much agree. I never said 'directly' benefit, and thats probably a good point, since its the short-term, narrow view that I hear many people take, thinking that somehow this is going to be a bad thing, and very few people talking about how, indirectly perhaps but still very realistically, its going to help. The Dems are correct, it is going to help the 'brown' people, but thats an unintended consequence of helping Americans. Of course, by focusing on the PC issues, they scare all of the PC-hating public into thinking this is some new sort of welfare program, "Give all our jobs to Mexicans, they need them more than you do."

I'm not sure what true conservatives you are talking about, that are pro-immigration, but maybe some of them should start being more public with their views. None of the Repub talking heads I hear ever do anything but fear-monger and paint immigration as an imminent threat.

[/ QUOTE ]

well, this may or not be true, but I dont think Bush and Co., are anti immigration despite what they say, or this "problem" would have actually been handled already

this is a poor argument. Im sicilian, you can make the argument that my people did a lot more "bad things" when they came over. The only problem I have is the socialist nature that some mexicans have, if you want to come over illegally pay your dues, your taxes, and dont rape our healthcare, whatever, I have no problem with it.

also, I think the "chicken or the egg" argument of enforcing laws is pointless. If it is a bad law, I want it to be broken, I dont think immigration laws apply here as they are not bad laws, they just need to be re-worked a little, but until they are we should try to enforce them.

The problem is that most people who want to come to America and be hard-working, law-abiding citizens, cannot come here legally. I think all immigrants should come here legally, and all immigrant should be able to come here legally (unless they are criminals).
