Silly question - Internet does not work on new computer
Hi gang,
A while back I posted for my son, who wanted to get a gaming computer. He took a lot of the advice he got here, and had a local company called NCIX put together a system comprised of components recommended here. Brought it home last night, and installed Windows XP, and installed an antivirus program. Tried to hook it up to the internet to update both XP and the antivirus, and got nothing. The ethernet jack lights up when we plug the cable in, but nothing else happens. The dumb question: Does he have to install a bunch of drivers now to make things work? I imagine the sound card, video card, etc. need to be installed to make everything go? Is that why his internet no workie? Thanks for putting up with me, No-tech dad. |

Re: Silly question - Internet does not work on new computer
If there was a serious problem with sound card or video card, you would have known well before getting into Windows and installing Antivirus etc. That most certainly is not the problem.
However, since your problem can roughly be translated to "I cannot connect to the internet - help", see the stickies in this forum that deal with the topic. |

Brought it home last night, and installed Windows XP... [/ QUOTE ] Sounds like you may not have the drivers for the ethernet. Go into your device manager and see what you have listed there under network adapters. Did the company that built the pc provide any driver disks, ie video card, motherboard, etc? |
