Default Unlocking 3 digit lock code on luggage

This is totally [censored] up. I knew the code when I was packing, but didnt bother checking it. I was just glad to get the stupid suitcase shut. Now, it doesn't seem to open with the code I thought was the correct code. Any tips other than going through all 999 combinations?

If you can't remember it after a few minutes thought, just break it.

Call down the front desk and ask if they have something to cut the lock off. I have to imagine that lost keys / forgotten combos happen fairly regularly and that they'd have the tool to solve this problem.

edit: just noticed that you are talking about a briefcase not a bag, rendering my post moot.
