I was trying to go for pot control throughout the hand

this is a NL concept that infiltrates limit only in a few very isolated, specific instances(and even then there are arguments against because it almost always sacrifices money).

when starting out, here's the biggest key to success at limit: VALUE. in hold em, every hand has a relative value based on opponents' hand ranges and board textures. in limit hold em it is hugely important that you capitalize on all of your hands to eek out all of the profit possible.

because of the fixed structure there are many different obstacles you must overcome, but maximizing value should be at the heart of every decision you make. you don't need to play with a strategy that protects your stack(since it isn't at risk). you need to play with a strategy that builds your stack(since every bet earned/saved/lost/wasted adds up). when you willingly pass up on equity advantages, you give money away. this can have the effect of keeping you from making as much as you should, as well as exposing you to the problem of losing a pot more often than you would with proper strategy.

a limit hold em winrate of 2bb/100 is good. so think of what you did preflop like this:

say you expect your KK to win 40% of the time(just throwing it out there as an estimate). when you willingly pass up on raising preflop with 5 limpers(assuming the BB is calling most all the time given the odds and the limit), you gave up on 6 more small bets 40% of the time. that's 2.4sb of profit on that round of betting alone. that's well over 50 hands worth of work! and there's 3 more rounds of betting to go!

as others have said, limit is about crushing opponents by extracting maximum value. it's good you had a premeditated plan, it's just not good what your premeditated plan consisted of. good luck in your journey.
