Getting a Plasma TV for Xbox 360 - Is 1080P worth the extra $$$?
I'm going to be buying a plasma TV in a few days and would like to know if TV with 1080P technology is significantly better than a 720P TV. I'll be using it to play lots of xbox 360, so I would like to have a really nice viewing experience when playing. Price is really not an issue(I'm looking in the 50-58" range), but I would not want to waste the extra money if it's only marginally better than a 720P set.
So basically, I could get a bigger set(58") w/ 720P or I could go a notch lower and get a 50" w/ 1080P. |

ya im wondering the same thing, also how does standard def tv look on 1080P, and normal high def stuff? I think 1080p is only useful for xbox360, and maybe bluray player. Is it worth getting?, doesnt cost much more..

there's a viewing range thing about whether you can tell the difference at varying distances. i'll look for it. i think for 50inch 1080p you can tell the difference 8ft and closer iirc

If you want to use it as a computer screen 1080p >>>> 720p. For games it's probably not a big deal right now as most games only support 720p anyway. If you're thinking long term, the next generation of consoles will probably have 1080p as the standard resolution.

Definitely go smaller and 1080p. Especially if its primary use is games. |

MMMkay, I think I'll end up getting either the Panasonic 50PZ2700u 1080P or the Samsung FP-T5084 1080P, both are gorgeous sets.. I'll probably end up with the Panny, unless the sales guy makes an offer I can't refuse with the Sammy

go with the panny. if you decide to get a smaller one, don't bother getting the 42pz700u, you dont need 1080p on a 42. just get the 42pz77u (can probably snag it for 1200)

Re: Getting a Plasma TV for Xbox 360 - Is 1080P worth the extra $$$?
1080p facts/misconceptions Gist: The larger the TV and the closer you watch, the more desirable 1080p is. Watching a 42" at 9' and you won't see much of any difference. 50" at 6 feet and you'd see a relevant difference. In any case, it will have a generally negligable impact for video games. Very few games are going to be 1080p native this generation - those that are may likely run better in 720p anyhow. You'll mostly end up using it for upscaling, not native display.
That aside I'm also about to buy a new 50"+ set and will probably be going 1080p. Future proofing is nice and I'll probably be picking up an HD-DVD or blu-ray player sometime in the eventual future. |

Re: Getting a Plasma TV for Xbox 360 - Is 1080P worth the extra $$$?
thanks for the link dire.. I think I'll still go with 1080p. With the way technology changes, I might as well try to stay ahead of the curve. And even moreso, these sets will be obsolete in 4 months anyways lol
I'll probably go ahead and buy a TV along with the 360 HD-DVD player and get 5 free worthless movies to boot.. |
