Yeah. The bet is the signal. I have had clueless donks in MTTs who had no knowledge about this "convention," and bet me out to lose to the all-in with some weak hand.

i expect it from others when im all in as a short stack, it is kind of a dick move but so is bluffing and showing...one of those aspects of poker that you really shouldnt be appalled by its pretty standard
Although if someone is discussing doing it, thats just wrong |

The reason being that checking it down is the most positive +EV play near the end of a tourney...you keep moving up in the money as people bust - that's worth more then bluffing a winner out of a few chips and letting the all-in stick around to get lucky. [/ QUOTE ] This is the correct answer. It is common etiquette to do this unless someone hits a monster hand. I have seen people get admonished for actually betting in the same situation. |

As said over and over again, I don't think this is bad etiquette. Personally, I think that just about the worst etiquette you could possibly have in poker is bluffing into a sidepot, whether or not there's even chips in it.

So if there's $10 in the main pot and $3K in the side, you wouldn't ever bluff? That's just dumb. |

[/ QUOTE ] Agreeing to check it down is not bad etiquette as much as it is cheating.... Tournament poker is not a team sport. When you collude with another player to eliminate a third player, you are violating tournament rules against collusion. |

I would imagine this topic has been discussed at least 42,000 times in the past on here. I would even venture a guess that you could find one of those threads by using the search function.

You have A7, main pot is 2K with someone all in, side pot of 200, and you have 2K back. Flop of Q63, rainbow. You first to act. You should be all in here every single time, barring any specific reads. |
