How much does a box at a casino usually cost?

It should not cost you anything. You will need to leave a deposit (depends on room for amount) when you withdraw chips (cash). When you put the chips(cash)back you sign off on it and leave.

My major concern is access. Are there accounts that will let me withdraw more than a couple hundred dollars by ATM?

Some banks allow $1000. Do some research of the banks in your area.

FWIW your hidey hole is much better than mine. I had 8K in my sock drawer, cleverly hidden beneath the folded pillow cases.

I eventually got a player's bank [box] at Commerce where I play most often. I deposited a few K there, and stuck the rest in savings.

When I went on a tear and build it up to more than I'd ever possibly need at Commerce, I started taking the money home and hiding it under the pillow cases until I could get to the bank. Fortunately my now semi-annual 250BB downswing happened so fast that I never took the money to the bank, so it was easy to trudge it back to Commerce where it belonged.

AFAIK, casinos don't charge for a box. (Commerce doesn't)

Also, I'm pretty sure you can get your daily ATM limit increased if you talk to the right people at the bank.

Canterbury asks a $50 deposit for a box. It's worth not having to carry $$$$ on you.

Let's get this out of the way up front: I'm evidently incredibly naive and sheltered. But here is my question:

How is anyone not able to have a bank account?

Or is it just that some people don't want one so their money can't be tracked?

I have a fireproof box at home for things like passport, SIN card, other documents and cash that I keep laying around. They are relatively cheap ($50-$100) and a really good idea to have. Talk to someone at your bank to see if you can raise the limit of daily withdrawl, most times if you do all your business with them and have a sufficient account status they will be more that accomadating.

I do not want to thread jack, but I will give one example.

If someone causes an overdraft on a banking account he or she cannot open a new bank account until the person clears it up with the reporting agency after making good on the overdraft.

get an hsbc online savings account. its paying 5.05% apr right now. and the money is not locked up you can transfer up to 6 times per month no fee. interest paid monthly. only takes a few days to eft it to your local bank if you need some of it.

Get box at bank, deposit in account at bank, set up player's bank at casino, get box at casino are options. Since this money is used pretty much for poker only I am guessing it would probably be most convenient to have it at the casino.

Get a bank account.

Most will allow you to increase your daily ATM limit to >=$1K/24h.

Another option is to cash out for high value chips from your primary room. While easier to lose, much easier to hide and not always recognized as "cash" by a thief.
