Flush Is Made HU On The River -- Check/Raise Or Bet For Value?
This is like the third hand I played at a new casino. Absolutely no reads whatsoever, other than that the entire table is asian (why yes sir, I do play in Vancouver!). Table is full.
Hero limps in MP with A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] after one limper, a couple other people limp, and Villain limps from MP (5 handed). Flop: J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (5 SB) Hero bets, 1 caller, Villain raises, both call (3 handed). Turn: 6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5.5 BB) Checked to Villain who bets, only Hero calls (heads-up). River: Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (7.5 BB) Hero? Who bets this river and who goes for a check/raise? |

I just bet out here. Might be tempting to go for a CR here but the fact that you just called the flop raise and called the turn, that river card may make him check behind so a bet is goot for me here. He is calling your bet here I assume since he showed strength all through this hand.

You have to bet here as there is almost no way a knowledgeable player will bet as that card completes almost all draws. If the guy is a total aggressive donks who just always bets until challenged then maybe check/raise but in most instances betting out is right.
Picking up these type of bets usually makes the difference between winning and losing sessions. |

With both straight and flush draws getting there on that river card, I would bet against an unknown. Too many low limit players will check behind.

They can't call if you don't bet. (I think I read that somewhere.)

* grunch *
I think I bet out here most of the time at my table; especially if the river is multiway (villain will think at least one opponent was on a flush draw), maybe not as much heads up but it would depend on the villain. There are just too many passive players that will check behind when a river card completes a flush; especially if two to the flush on the flop, maybe not as much if backdoor. And you also can't guarantee winning two bets even if you do check to villain and he bets; there's the off chance they'll fold to that if they're betting a fairly weak hand. Without a read of any sort you have to bet this. Don't forget there's a chance he could have been playing his own flush draw aggressively and you're about to unleash a mighty 3 town on his unsuspecting arse.
