Yes, they are overpaid. But a much our tax dollars disappear to really rediculous pork or are unaccounted for defense spending. Work on the pork first.
As far as state & local property taxes, you are for sure getting ripped off by school boards/police(esp in NJ). But these orgs are so corrupt and backwards, the only way we can do away with them is to federalize and/or privitize their services. Since states have been allocated inordinate power, this will not happen soon.

No seriously, I'm all for reducing government's cost, but I don't get why you liked this editorial. It's really bad.
