I'm playing 20/40 in the SB with A8o. UTG (a bad player) makes a blind raise (he is somewhat short stacked with ~$200 remaining) -- note: live straddles aren't allowed in Canada. The BB (reasonably good and somewhat tricky), shortly after receiving his first card, announces to the table that he's going to make it 60 if no one raises. It's folded to me...
Clearly, I should either raise or fold...I opted for the (ahem) low-variance option. |

Did he look at his first card? I 3-bet, but folding is not wrong if you feel like you're sure villain's other card is definitely an ace. However, it could be a K or Q, there's dead moeny in the pot, I'm comfortable playing OOP with a hand with showdown value, so 3-ball.

I 3-bet. I have said things like this in the bb when UTG straddles just to see if everyone would fold and I could 3 bet his random hand with my random hand because I'm better than him.
Just because he looked at his card and said this doesn't mean that it is a good card. Also, raising is more fun than folding. |

Most of the time people make comments like that it is a scare tactic. He is basically saying "okay guys, UTG just put in a blind raise and I don't want anyone to 3 bet since I will have to fold and that really sucks since it is my big blind." He doesn't want you to 3 bet so that is exactly why I would.
