Default Had a heated discussion about this turnsituation

I had quite a heated discussion with a friend about this situation and I really wonder what you would think.

You're playing HU against a well-playing opponent. You raise AT from the SB, he calls.

Flop is T83 all hearts. You don't have a heart. He checks, you bet about 80% of the pot and he calls.

Turn is 2d. He checks.

Now the question: How many times (or percentage of) the potsize should be the effective stack to favour checking above betting?

Looking forward to your responses.

Depends on how predictable/ABC he plays. If he's predictable, I'd bet. If he's tricky I'd probably check behind and see what happens on the river.

I really think betting with a certain stacksize could be very wrong. For instance, would you bet the turn if you had, lets say, 3x the pot left?

Suppose he's a good player (so he can be tricky)

If you have really shallow stacks, ofcourse you would bet. But where is the turning point where a check becomes better (for bluff inducing value, pot control, and countering the fact that you're in a very difficult spot if you get check-raised on the turn).

pretty easy bet no matter what.
however, if the pot is roughly 1/4th stack sizes, at that point you can think about not stacking off.
