Default Hellmuth: Big Pimpin

The more Hellmuth threads the better!

Am I the only one who is shocked at why all these celebrities want to hang out with Phil Hellmuth? There seems to be a ton of poker pros that would be better choices to hang out with (Ivey, Negreanu, Lederer, even like Gracz and Arieh). However, from Negreanu's blog and various articles, it seems like Phil is always hobnobbing with big celebs---Tobey, Affleck, ARod, Tom Brady etc; Michael Jordan is a big fan of Hellmuth's? wtf is up with this? http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/poker...amp;id=2346656

Did anyone else crack up from the mental image of Hellmuth spitting Jay Z's rhymes over the mic to J and Beyonce?
" 'Young, free, cruising down the Westside Highway … just me and my girlfriend,” I sang over the PA system. There were a few chuckles from those who recognized this lyric from a rap song by Jay-Z. You see, I was good-naturedly needling Jay-Z, who won the pot, and his girlfriend Beyoncé, who was sitting behind him."

you might just say that i'm "jealous" of him.......but i'll admit i am--how do all these "cool" celebs (reps for being cool at least) stand hanging out with Hellmuth and his egotistical self?

Sounds like you are jealous.

From everything I've ever read from everyone in the poker scene, Phil is a VERY cool guy to party with and a very nice guy when he's not in competitive mode.

Would be cooler if he knew it was a badass Tupac song.

What's pathetic is that you're jealous over the fact that he gets to hang out with these celebs. Like who cares?

I can understand being envious of his money or that he gets to bang a lot of chicks. But envious cause he gets to hang out with a bunch of people who really aren't any more interesting than your own friends, but just happen to be famous? Does having Tobey McGuire as a hanger-on really make your day?

d,

I have never met Phil, but I've met people at various degrees of fame/success and based on that it would not surprise me if Phil acted completely differently and super-polite to these people and maybe even sucks up them like crazy. It is weird how celebrities change when around more famous celebs.

Phish,

If you did't know this already, Toby McGuire's other persona is Spiderman.

I think I can speak for all of us when I say:

Having Spiderman as a "hander-on" = sooo cool.

Helping clarify,

Cancuk

people have the wrong impression of phil. he's extremely nice to anyone who comes up to him at the tourneys when he is not playing. he also kind of comes off as more humorous at the table then angry in the way the matusow is.
