Re: My Top 15 horror movies of all-time: 1970 - present

[ QUOTE ] Why would any one prefer the campy played for laughs remake of evil dead that is Evil dead 2 to the original? [/ QUOTE ] I don't know anyone who prefers the first Evil Dead to the masterpiece that is ED2. ED2 is one of the great comedies of the '80s, if not of all time. [/ QUOTE ] Most everyone I've bumped into likes the first one better. The first is one of the best American horror movies of the last couple decades. ED2 is a fun mess. |

I wouldn't call it a horror movie, but The Blair Witch Project scared the [censored] out of me. Although the viewing which left me scared occurred when I was 13, alone, at my Dad's house, right near the woods. [/ QUOTE ] You wouldn't call it a horror movie? It's about supernatural stuff and meant to be scary. What would you call it? Some of these posts are making me dizzy. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I don't know anyone who prefers the first Evil Dead to the masterpiece that is ED2. ED2 is one of the great comedies of the '80s, if not of all time. [/ QUOTE ] That’s my problem with it it’s completely played for laughs and not scary at all while the first one struck a balance. [/ QUOTE ] The first one didn't know what it wanted to be. It wasn't scary enough to be a horror movie and wasn't funny enough to be a satire or a comedy or even a camp film. Why would you have a problem with ED2 being a brilliant, terrific comedy? Who cares if it's not scary -- it's not trying to be! Superbad was really funny too -- were you bothered that it didn't scare you or balance its comedy with gory stabbings? [/ QUOTE ] THe first Evil Dead knew precisely what it wanted to be, was masterful at it, and was very scary. I've talked to countless people who found it scary as hell, and so did I. |

The two horror films that I think are close to perfect are Rosemary's Baby and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Most underrated might be Scream.

Films like Rosemary's Baby are being overlooked for lots of trash. I think people have forgotten what a good horror movie is.

Never heard of it. What's good about it? [/ QUOTE ] Some scenes were truly hair-raising. I usually don't like horror movies because they fail to scare me. Haven't seen the remake and probably won't. |
