The 13th Valley - Del Vecchio, book is about Vietnam War - it is writtenn first person and is best book i have ever read (and read)(and read) - you see someting new each time you read it.

Goodbye Darkness by William Manchester ( a fantastic autobiography)
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey ( trite now, but I read this before most people had heard of it or it was taught in courses and before the movie -fwiw, it was 100x better than the movie)
