Shhould I have folded earlier on this hand? He bet really small on the flop which I saw as weakness so I called. He did the same on the turn which again I saw as weakness as he could have seen me call as weakness. I folded on the river as i thought he must have something having bet 3 times. thought?

In this case (in contrast to AQ) I don't mind the minraise with 99 to sweeten the pot, although it will be obvious that you hold a small/medium pocketpair to some villains. If you would be in MP3, CO or button I would certainly raise more to isolate the limper and take it away on the flop with a continuation bet. To me it looks if the BB has a weak queen or flushdraw on the flop, which he wants to get cheap. I don't mind the call to see whether he fires again on the turn when a blank comes off. He bets small again on the turn, with some kind of read that he is able to fold his hand you might try to take it away because I still expect him to have a weak queen so you can represent the flush. Then again he might also be valuebetting poorly. I don't mind a raise on the turn with a read, folding isn't bad either. Calling is the worst of all.

This is called a blocking bet. He is trying to dictate how cheaply he can draw at his flush. I'm not sure about 5NL as I have never played it, but at 25NL and 50NL I RR pot+ this everytime with ATC (any two cards) If he calls and the flush draw misses again on the Turn and then he makes another one of these blocking bets, I RR him the pot again... Like 1 time in 50 you will run into someone that just plays a monster really passively and you will get burned, but all the pots you have picked up will far outweigh that one time.
This all assumes I was the pre flop aggressor of course. Which I usually am. |

If you spot weakness raise , dont call. Calling when you spot weakness doesnt really help you win the hand, raising does though.
Raise more pre-flop, with such a small raise pre-flop your gonna get alot of callers so do the usually 4xbb + 1bb per limper. |
