Has any one here ever played an online multiplayer mod for the original Half-Life called Natural Selection? It's pretty amazing.
Basically, there are two teams: marines vs. aliens. Marines: All but one of the marine team plays from a FPS view and goes around the map killing aliens and securing resources. Resources allow the marines to build up their base and research upgrades. One of the marines become a commander and plays the game from a birds-eye view and basically decides what to do with the resources: upgrades, structures, medpacks, etc. The marine team can follow the commanders orders (generally a good idea) or of course, wander off and go Rambo. The aliens try to secure the same resources that the marines are trying to secure. Resources allow them to evolve into more powerful lifeforms and get enhanced abilities. Anyway, it's the best game I have ever played. The website: http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/?action=files |

I played it a while ago and loved the concept.
I think World in Conflict is doing something similar with the RTS/FPS combination. |
