Default Hypothetical baseball question

If you're a play-off contending team and you need to win all of the 3 games approaching your last series of the year to make it, would you prefer to play (at home) the worst team in the league against whom you are 1-7 or the best team in the league against whom you are 7-1?

well there might actually be a circumstance where you'd want to play the best team, if you were two games back of them and wanted to control your own destiny or something. but yeah, retarded question.

wwhat if the best team's pitchers all throw a secret japanese pitch that your players have been secretly training all their lives to hit but no one else knows about it.

and the worst team has 3 players from a country boycotted by your best hitters so your best hitters will boycott all games against the worst team.

answer that one, smart guy.

Better Hypothetical Question....

Youre a major league baseball manager. Your leadoff batter who ahs 60 steals this year has just doubled vs a pitcher with an ERA over 5 and your 2 hitter is batting over .300 and is adepth to hitting to the rigth side.

Do you...

hypothetical hypothetical baseball question:

you wouldn't be referring to bunting Luis Castillo even though he's doing ridiculously well and any single will score Jose Reyes, would you? Pros of Castillo hitting a guy with an ERA above 5:

- extra base hit (= run + RISP)
- single (= run)
- ground ball to right side (= sac bunt)
- fly ball (= sac bunt)

cons:

- ground ball, left side (= out + maybe reyes can make it since hes like flash gordon = sac bunt, maybe...)
- ground ball pitcher (= out)
- K (= out) and even this isn't bad, after having 2 strikes, let reyes steal 3rd.

my observation: let him swing away, willie.

damnit you got me.

how foolish of me to overlook that (very plausible) possibility with castillo.

thats the same result as a walk, probably. unless reyes teleports to third.
