An Act of Total Cowardice

Back when I was a 15-year-old high school drop-out with nowhere to live. My oldest sister, who had two young kids and was preggers with a third, in exchange for free child care assistance, let me move into a spare room in her second floor apartment.

She was married to a very bad individual. He was a low-level, free lance drug dealing criminal named X. He was extremely well known for his violent tendencies and and just letting people know I was related to him had, at various times, kept me from getting my ass kicked by lesser, although equally violent scum bags.

One night I had a party while my sister and X went out clubbing. When they came back everything was cool until my brother-n-law ran out of crank (meth). He then proceeded to beat up the entire party and threw everyone out of the house until there was just the three (four counting my unborn niece)of us X, my sister and me.

He started in on my sister and I intervened. He hit me once or twice and I took a dive. I watched from the floor as he went after my sister. In a moment of clarity, I realized I needed to get up and do something. Instead, I remained where I was and watched as X kicked the [censored] out of my sister, picked her up off the couch and threw her down the stairs.

Twenty-four hours later my sister gave birth to my niece, who was DOA. I did not go to the funeral.

That is my most cowardly act. Anyone else have any?

Better story than most. I don't care if it's true or not.

I'll admit to something that can be taken as cowardice or common sense, whatever floats your boat. And that is, that I would never admit to the worst things I've done or even felt on an internet forum, even if prompted by someone else's real or faked story.
