I don't think they are that hard to learn to ride. I used to do wheelies on my road bike on mine. And the fact that they require a bit of focus makes me more likely to ride them than just a trainer.

If you do get a trainer, get one with a good bit of adjustment in the resistance. The cheap ones from performance with just three settings suck.
