Re: Promising upcoming movies
John August's The Nines
Looks interesting. This links to a blurb and the first 9 minutes of this movie. It sounds like it was quite popular at Sundance. The first 9 minutes don't make it exactly clear what the movie is about, and apparently the plot isn't well suited to a brief synopsis. It's a three part movie where the three lead actors play a different character in each part. There is some sort of mystery, which isn't apparent from this clip. Here's the description that was listed at Sundance. "Three actors--Ryan Reynolds, Hope Davis, and Melissa McCarthy--are a delight playing different roles in the three different scenarios that comprise John August's film The Nines. In "The Prisoner," a troubled television star finds himself under house arrest with his chipper publicist and disillusioned neighbor providing his only link to the outside world. "Reality Television" is a Project Greenlight-style show tracing the behind-the-scenes tribulations of a half-hour sitcom. And in "Knowing," an acclaimed video-game designer and his family have car trouble on an outing and find themselves stranded deep in the woods. " Releases Aug. 31 in NYC and LA. |

[ QUOTE ] Into the Wild (trailer) The book was an awesome read. I hope the movie lives up. The trailer looks pretty aweome, but as we now from Entourage, that could be decieving. [/ QUOTE ] Bleagh. I really enjoyed the book but the movie will probably make me angry. [/ QUOTE ] Either they changed the ending/conclusion or the trailer is misleading IMO. Because the trailer makes the movie look life-affirming, which is not how I recall the book at all. |

Looks like the movie takes a different direction after that nine minute intro. |

Re: Promising upcoming movies
If "The Golden Compass" is anywhere near as good as the book, it is going to be a fantastic movie. On the other hand the trailer for "Gone Baby Gone" really didn't do anything for me, and I love all of Lehane's books. I think they could have picked a better book to adapt, especially because GBG is 4th in the series and probably the most twisted and sick one (which is saying something for Lehane). If Affleck managed to screw this up too I am going to [censored] a brick and then hit him with it.

Re: Promising upcoming movies
The Nines looks interesting and The Bucket List should be worth seeing just because of the two stars.
Also, Reservation Road |
