Re: chess question
Correct a- and h- pawns are least valuable. Hopefully your friend, being the chess donkey that he is, picks one of these.

Re: chess question
Hi degeneratum, I am a United States Chess Master.
Your friend should choose either the f2 (if you are white) or the f7 pawn (if you are black). This is the best pawn to remove as it makes your king weaker in the opening and susceptible to an early attack. Having him remove your d or e pawn allows for easy development and gives you compensation. Having him remove your rook pawn hurts a little bit as castling to that side becomes riskier. So have him remove your d or e pawn, and ship it. Also talk him out of removing your f-pawn. |

Re: chess question
i am not a US chess master. but i will second the notion that the f-pawn would be most damaging

Re: chess question
"general consensus" notwithstanding, kkcountry provided the correct answer in the first reply:
[ QUOTE ] the better player takes black and removes pawn f7 in a standard pawn handicap match [/ QUOTE ] of course yr free to remove whatever you want and play however you want. king's pawn isn't really a handicap, tho, as it immediately opens up queen & bishop. wiki |
