Yeah, this is a pretty impressive streak and it should get some more attention.

This is the biggest thing a fat white guy has done in the midwest since Travis Szyzmerski opened and closed the Golden Corral buffet on May 28th, 2002 in Davenport, IA.

Their bullpen has been atrocious for a better part of the year. A lot of guys who had career years the past couple years came crashing back down (Uribe, Pierzynski, Dye). Bringing back Podsednik and signing Erstad were mistakes before the season even started.

To all the haters:

I don't really care about streaks, I guess. Even if it was a member of a team I liked.

I haven't seen the numbers lately, but are the White Sox playing up to exact expectations based on BP's predictions?

PECOTA prediction was 72-90. Current pace is 75-87.

Jenks tweaked his ankle on off day... wont pitch until Wednesday (but only if save situation) says Ozzie. 14 perfect innings in a row.... impressive. Go Bobby.

Jenks has now retired enough batters to fill a perfect game, and he is about half way thru a second one.

Where does this rank in pitching accomplishments compared to say Orel H scoreless innings and Gagne's consecutive save streaks?

What if Jenks ends this streak north of 55 retired batters in a row? That's 2+ perfect games thrown...(one inning at a time) Would you rank an accomplishment at that level higher than Orel or Gagne?

[/ QUOTE ]

Obviously pitchers get tired and that causes them to be easier to hit, so getting out 27 in one start is more impressive than getting out 27 over a couple of weeks. But this feat is still mostly chance, a freak occurrance, and the likelihood doesn't go WAY up just because the pitcher isn't ever tired. So I think anything more than 35 or so (arbitrary number) perfect hitters is a lot more impressive than a single perfect game. If he gets to 54+ its one of the more unlikely things to have ever happened (at least in the universe of things we'd care about, not like Shane Mack getting a single then a double then another single off a guy named Hernandez on a Wednesday). It doesn't really rank as a great accomplishment, just a freakishly unlikely one. It has a significant skill factor, but its mostly luck. Sort of like Dimaggio.
