I've never tried your variation, but have done the one I posted a few times. I just did the motion of yours while I sit in my chair and it doesn't feel natural to me. It feels like it would put undo stress on the shoulders (not the good kind), but I'm not as flexible or balanced as I should be.

I haven't use the variation I posted much because I think I get better stimulation from other exercises. If I recall correctly, I think it was fatiguing my biceps quicker than anything. Come to think of it, it's sort of the same type of motion as drag curls - only performed to the side and with dumbbells.

Interesting observation. I find this motion very "natural"; it occurs using a shovel, lifting a wheelbarrow, crawling etc. It is also (the way I do it) exactly the same movement - but in reverse - as doing dips with your hands on a bench and your feet elevated, like this: Arnold doing dips

I think filling up a wheelbarrow full of dirt, rolling it around, emptying it, and filling it up again is a better option.

I have never in my life used that motion for anything.

Correction: I used that motion but with a supinated grip to attempt to grab my girl's breasts when she came up behind me.

Oh. Okay. And this is some kind of antagonist for dips? Don't think I've ever seen that.
