Another NL question
I just posted a question about whether I should start playing Limit vs. NL.
I was just pondering another question though regarding my play in SNGs and MTTs, all NL. I have done well in SNGs, cashing around 35-40% of the time. I might add though that my heads up play needs a lot of work. Because I have only won a few heads up matches, and have came in 2nd or 3rd a lot. In MTTs on the other hand I cash may 15% of the time and the best I have done is 12th. I have never made it to a NL mtt final table. Now my question is what is it that is holding me back in mtts but not sngs. Is there anything that you guys do in each that help. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I might add it is all NL holdem I have been playing. |

Re: Another NL question
Maybe nothing what size MTT are you playing (# of players)?

Re: Another NL question
anywhere from as little as 500 or as many as 3k +.
Maybe it is the fact I lose concentration and my game starts to deteriorate. I don't know for sure just wondered if any of you guys had similar problems and ways to overcome them. |

Re: Another NL question
Without a sample size (i.e., how many of each tournament you've played), there's no way to answer that question. MTTs have much higher variance than S&Gs so you may just be running bad.
But correct me if I'm wrong, don't MTTs typically pay about 10% of their entrants, versus 30% of a one-table S&G? So of course your ITM percentage is going to be lower in a tournament format that pays fewer people by percentage. Sorry if I'm missing something obvious. |

Now my question is what is it that is holding me back in mtts but not sngs. [/ QUOTE ] A lot of it comes down to luck late in a tournament. You end up all in AK vs 88, or 99 vs KQo and lose two or three times, then you end up out instead of the chip leader. Perhaps you aren't gathtering enough chips to weather those flips in the MTTs because you're not gambling enough. Or maybe you tighten up on the bubble instead of stealing more on the bubble. My guess is you just haven't got the breaks when you've made it deep yet. If you keep getting deep into an MTT, then you'll end up winning eventually. |

Re: Another NL question
Most pros only cash (not just final T and big hite simply cash) in these size games about 1/6th of the time so Id say you are doing well.
