This is why I hate putting people into buckets. Or more exactly into as few as 4 buckets.

A lot of the "LAGs" in these games are just people who like building big multi-way pots for a lottery effect.

This is true but given that we have only 3 opponents and meh relative position I think J8s is at best marginal in this spot. Make it 98s and I'll think about it.

I'll amend my original answer. I tried to answer OP's question and did not focus on the fact that Hand One was a fold PF, especially facing a cold call.

You cannot lower your PF standards, that is EXACTLY what the maniac wants. This is a test of discipline and patience. When facing a maniac, if the table sends its top hand alone against the maniac, the table will soon win. If the table lowers it standards and tries to gang up on the maniac, he will leave with stacks of $ and the LAPs will be gutted and filleted like the fish they are.

Be patient, and only jack it up when you have a clear PF advantage. When that happens, relentlessly value bet. On Hand One, you just plain got lucky and the board hit you in the face.
